PIC LOOKS AT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POLICY
AND PRACTICE
Representatives of the EUN’s Policy and Innovation Committee
(PIC) met in Brussels on 13 June 2007 for the second PIC meeting of the
year. The event was organised in connection for the EUN Steering
Committee meeting on 14 June.
Eighteen PIC representatives from 11 countries
took part in the discussions. The theme of the meeting was the link
between policy and practice; discussions also focused on the plans to
strengthen EUN’s work on school practice.

LITHUANIA: P2V POLICY PEER LEARNING VISIT
23 participants from five countries partners in the P2V project (Peer
to Peer networking for Valorisation) participated in the first policy
visit to Vilnius, Lithuania on 18-20 June 2007. The meeting was
organised by the Lithuanian Centre of Information Technologies of
Education (ITC) and addressed the topic of digital resources.

THREE
YEARS OF ETWINNING CELEBRATED IN BRUSSELS
The final CSS/NSS meeting for the 2005-2007 phase of eTwinning took
place in Brussels, on 12 June 2007. The meeting both celebrated the
excellent and successful collaboration during this first stage of
eTwinning as well as paved the road for future activities for the
2007-2008 school year.
Chaired by EUN Executive Director Marc Durando,
the meeting brought together 60 representatives of the National Support
Services (NSS), the Central Support Service (CSS) and the European
Commission.

PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP IN TALLINN
The final professional development workshop of the 2006/07 series took
place in Tallinn, Estonia on 7-9 June 2007. 90 participants from 22
countries came together for this workshop aimed at teachers from
primary school.
Enel Mägi, CEO of the Tiger leap
Foundation, welcomed the participants and talked of the importance of
eTwinning for teachers and pupils at primary level as it gives them the
opportunity to broaden their pupils’ European horizons and
extend their own professional development.

NEW
ETWINNING HANDBOOK 2007
Following the success of last year’s first edition, a new
eTwinning book was recently published. The new ‘Learning with
eTwinning: A Handbook for Teachers’ is now available in print
and online.
The aim of this book is to give teachers
comprehensive information on what it means to be involved in an
eTwinning project and resource to get started in an eTwinning project
as well as to find out about some of Europe’s top projects
from the 2005-2006 school year.

YOUNG
PEOPLE PLAY M-GAMES AT EMAPPS.COM SUMMER SCHOOL
Using 3G mobile phones with built in cameras and GPS devices, groups of
young people took part in educational games to explore the historic
town of Torun in Poland during the second eMAPPS.com summer school 4-8
June 2007.
The summer school was a major opportunity for
some 50 teachers from the 14 participating schools, national
coordinators and project partners to show mobile learning games
developed in the project.

SAFER
INTERNET DAY WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Children and their teachers presented their winning projects in the
Safer Internet Day 2007 Competition at a ceremony in Brussels Town Hall
on 11 June 2007.
Richard Swetenham, Head of Unit at the European
Commission’s DG Information Society, congratulated the
winners from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, the UK and the
United States and thanked sponsors Vodafone, represented by Annie
Mullins and Liberty Global Europe represented by Bert Holtkamp.

SPRING
DAY MEETING IN BRUSSELS
The second project meeting for Spring Day 2007 took place on 16 June
2007 in Brussels. Almost all Pedagogical Advisers and twelve National
Liaisons from the EU member states and candidate countries came
together to report on their activities and experience.

competition have been selected out of 2,400 entries representing
schools from almost all European countries.

STRENGTHENS INITIATIVES IN CONTENT EXCHANGE
EUN experts recently attended two key meetings in the area of
interoperability and content exchange: the EDRENE kick off meeting
which took place on 11-13 June 2007 in Naples and the European
Foundation for Quality in eLearning (EFQUEL) Open Seminar on 13 June
2007.

SUCCESSFUL
PENCIL SCIENCE TEACHERS CONFERENCE
More than 120 participants attended the final PENCIL Science Teachers
conference on 14-16 June 2007 in Technopolis, the Flemish science
centre located in Mechelen, Belgium. About 100 science teachers from
all over Europe attended the event.

COSN
AND EUROPEAN SCHOOLNET JOIN FORCES
EUN and the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) announced on 4 June
2007 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim to share
knowledge, resources and insights on the role of education technology.
Both organisation will work closely together to
explore synergies, exchange ideas and join forces to develop
technological tools and services that will be beneficial for both
education systems.

EUROPEAN SCHOOLNET AND Appe TO COOPERATE
European Schoolnet was recently approached by the Association of
Petrochemicals Producers in Europe (Appe) to launch an educational
campaign for upper primary and secondary schools.
Together, they are developing an innovative
concept to enable young people to explore the properties of materials,
and understand some of the chemical processes involved in creating
materials used in every day life.
