    STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING IN BRUSSELS
    The European Schoolnet Steering Committee meeting took place on 26 April 2007 in Brussels. 20 representatives representing 17 Ministries took place in the one day meeting to discuss issues linked to EUN development and financial perspectives. This is the first Steering Committee of the year after the meeting on 6 December 2006 in connection with the EUN Round Table in Bruges.

    Under discussion were plans for two core activities to strengthen the collaborative value of EUN: First, the launch of a public version of the Learning Resource Exchange for Schools (LRE), the second activity concerns mechanisms to exchange and analyse practices in schools.

    DEVELOPMENT YOUTH PRIZE WINNERS IN RWANDA
    On 17-21 April 2007, Development Youth Prize winners and their teachers travelled to Rwanda with Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid.

    This visit was organised as part of the Development Youth Prize competition (DYP) where young Europeans submitted contributions highlighting European cooperation in Africa.

    Spring Day 2007 myEUROPE

    EUROPEAN SCHOOLNET ORGANISES SPRING DAY CHATS
    As part of the Spring Day for Europe activities, European Schoolnet organised three chats in April 2007 between European decision-makers and European schools.

    Chat guests included Dimitris Dimitriadis, president of the European Economic and Social Committee, Michel Delebarre, president of the Committee of the Regions and Ján Figel’, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture, and Youth.

    MYEUROPE CELEBRATES ITS 7TH BIRTHDAY
    Launched on 9 May 2000 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the myEUROPE Project turns seven in the year when the European Union celebrates its 50th anniversary.

    Before 1 May 2004, myEUROPE aimed to offer an online meeting place for teachers in the Member States and Candidate Countries. After the enlargement, myEUROPE has changed its focus, to become a gateway to teaching and learning resources on European citizenship and cultural diversity

    TEACHERS SHARE THEIR VIEWS ABOUT ETWINNING THROUGH ECOTEC SURVEY
    In order to get a better idea about how eTwinning is working for schools in Europe, an online survey will be launched on 2 May 2007. The independent online survey has been developed by ECOTEC Research & Consulting to find out exactly how eTwinning is impacting students, teachers, schools and communities. This survey is developed as part of a wider independent evaluation commissioned by the European Commission.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP IN FINLAND
    The seventh professional development workshop of the 2006/07 series took place in Helsinki, Finland on 12 – 14 April 2007. 81 participants from 19 countries came together for this workshop; the theme of the meeting was vocational education. The participants were welcomed on the first day by Pirjo Väyrynen, from the Finnish National Board of Education, who spoke to the participants of the importance of eTwinning for the students of vocational subjects.

    eTWINNING WINS LEARNING IMPACT AWARDS
    eTwinning won a "gold Learning Impact Award" at the Learning Impact 2007 Conference in Vancouver, Canada on 19 April 2007. The Learning Impact Awards is organised by the IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS GLC) a worldwide organisation which develops and promotes the adoption of open technical specifications for interoperable learning technology.

    NEW FACES IN THE EUN OFFICE
    Marcin Cichy, Said Benhaddi, Benoît Billington and Nguyen Nhu Van have recently joined the EUN Office as interns. Marcin, originally from Poland is supporting the Insight portal team as a web editor, Said, from Belgium is supporting the web development team and Benoît ( Belgium) and Nguyen ( Vietnam) are doing research and development work for strand three.
