    P2V TO KICK OFF IN COPENHAGEN
    P2V – Peer to Peer networking for Valorisation - will have its kick-off meeting on 21-22 February 2007 in Copenhagen. The event is organised in conjunction with the Policy and Innovation Committee meeting on 22-23 February 2007.

    The meeting will bring together the nine partners of the project. P2V aims to apply the peer learning methodologies developed in the P2P project to the topics of media literacy, digital content and new learning environments.

    SAFER INTERNET DAY TAKES OFF AT EUN
    43 countries have signed up to take part in the fourth edition of Safer Internet Day (SID) so far.

    The event will be celebrated on 6 February 2007. More than 200 schools and 150 organisations are taking part in the event.

    MYINSIGHT IMPROVED AND RELAUNCHED
    As part of continuing improvements to Insight, EUN’s Observatory for ICT in Education, the myInsight service has undergone a major technical overhaul, making it more powerful, flexible and easier to use.

    Now myInsight subscribers can access RSS feeds of their choice from the Insight portal and create their own Insight homepage, focussing on stories that are of interest to them.

    INSIGHT PUBLISHES MAJOR STUDY REPORT ON ICT IMPACT IN SCHOOLS
    Available on Insight, EUN’s Observatory for News Technology and Education, is a major pan-European study titled ‘The ICT Impact Report’. This study was conducted by European Schoolnet within the framework of the ICT Cluster of the European Commission.

    The report draws on the evidence from 17 recent impact studies across Europe and should be a key tool for policy makers, educators, practitioners and researchers.

    FIRST PIC MEETING OF 2007 IN COPENHAGEN
    The first meeting of the year of EUN’s Policy and Innovation Committee will be hosted by the Danish Ministry of Education in Copenhagen on 22-23 February 2007.

    The theme of the meeting is "the challenge of teacher training faced with the need to mainstream ICT use and provide (pedagogical) support to teachers". Also on the agenda will be a follow up on the reflection and discussions at the EUN Round Table 2006.

    PEDAGOGICAL ADVISORY GROUP MEETS IN BRUSSELS
    The Pedagogical Advisory Group for eTwinning met in Brussels on the 16th January. Among the issues discussed were considerations about the next steps for the future of eTwinning and the workshop organisation at the eTwinning Conference in February.

    The group also discussed the finalisation of the last two papers in the PAG series, which will be published within the next two months.

    eTWINNING PRIZE FINALISTS ANNOUNCED
    Following the success of the first eTwinning Prizes in 2006, the 2007 edition has raised considerable interest among European schools as 350 high-quality projects were submitted for the prize.

    The competition is now in their final evaluation phase at the European level and the finalists have been announced.

    eTWINNING WORKING GROUPS MEET IN BRUSSELS TO KICK OFF 2007
    >From 16-18 January 2007, eTwinning’s three Working Groups met in Brussels to discuss this year’s activities and the future of the Action as it approaches its next phase.

    The meeting brought together participants from the National Support Services (NSS), Central Support Services (CSS) and the European Commission.

    EUROPEAN SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN THIRD FUTURENERGIA CHAT
    As part of the Futurenergia project, 16 schools in Europe participated in an online chat on 23 January 2007.

    The activity was organised by European Schoolnet and PlasticsEurope as a way to bring the EU Sustainable Energy Week to all schools participating in the “Energy is our Future” project.

    The chat had as guests Mr. Patrick Lambert, Director of the Intelligent Energy Executive Agency (IEEA), and a team of six experts. The group answered schools’ questions in French, English and German.

    XPLORA LAUNCHES PORTAL USABILITY SURVEY
    Following the reshuffle of the Xplora portal in September 2006, the Xplora team is launching a survey to give a chance to the portal visitors to give feedback and comment on the new layout and features of Xplora.

    NEW AT EUN: ALEXA JOYCE
    Alexa Joyce is now back at European Schoolnet, after a nine month mission working at UNESCO Bangkok. In Thailand, she coordinated the UNESCO Schoolnet, a major pilot project bringing together eight countries in SE Asia to form a new school network. She is now a research analyst in the Insafe team, producing surveys and analytical reports on safer Internet issues. In the past she coordinated the PENCIL science education project, producing Xplora, EUN’s portal on science education.
